blue light special, aisle 5

My favorite way to save big at the grocery store is the weekly Manager’s Specials.  Typically, these items are found in the meat department, because the item will have to be thrown away in just a few days if it doesn’t sell.  Most of the specials are great, high quality cuts for half price.  You are cashing on a great deal at the store’s expense.

I’ve heard, fairly often, that folks on a budget will avoid the meat department, thinking they just can’t afford it.  Not true!  Like most luxuries (eating out, traveling & shopping for instance), it’s very possible, you just have to be creative about what & when you buy.

Takeaway: Even on a tight budget, you can eat all the meat you’d like . . . if you know when & where to buy.
Total Yearly Savings: Half price grocery specials save about $30 a month.  I’m happy to spend that money on more shoes.
