Once upon a time . . .
I lived in the big apple. While there, I fell in love with both my (now) husband, as well as this lovely little jacket.
I first stumbled upon the jacket at Filene’s Basement on 79th & Broadway. (Seriously, I actually “stumbled” upon it - have you ever been to that store? It’s like taking your own life in your hands. Upper West Side socialites must love a bargain as much as the next girl.) And it was love at first sight. To me, it screamed, “I managed to live in NYC by myself and survive . . . and I brought back this jacket to prove it.” At the time, I was interning on Broadway, and the $49 just couldn’t be spared, as much as it killed me to walk away from it. It’s quite possible that I cried some tears leaving it behind in the store that day.
But fate must have wanted us together, because many, many weeks later, I was getting ready to leave NY and head back to my small college town. To celebrate, I had saved up some money and was doing some farewell shopping in Union Square. I stopped in the Filene’s Basement and searched the racks for a few minutes, not spotting any take-home treasures. Just as I was about to leave, something caught my eye. It was the sleeve of the beloved jacket I’d left behind those many weeks ago. My heart started racing - “Could it be? Please oh please oh please let it be my size.” I was almost afraid to look, for fear of total disappointment. I glanced - it was exactly my size! But the story gets better . . . for the jacket that I had longed for was on double-clearance! I snagged it for only $21.98, and nearly danced out of the store with joy.
Don’t you just love a happy ending?
