Last month, we bought a lot of rice. A lot of rice. 25 lbs of jasmine and 15 lbs of basmati.
Why? Because we love rice. We eat it several times a week. It’s a yummy (& cheap!) side to an endless list of meals. And it never goes bad.
Rice isn’t all that expensive when you buy it in a 1 lb. bag. It gets even cheaper when you buy in serious bulk.
Buying in bulk is a great idea - if and only if you will actually use the bulk of it.
For instance, a membership to Costco or Sam’s Club isn’t worthwhile for us. The cost of the membership & the gas to drive there just simply wouldn’t outweigh the benefits for us. But a ton of rice - yep, that’s something we’re willing to stock & stash.
Takeaway: Buy in bulk - if you can justify it.
Total Yearly Savings: It save us about $15 a month to buy in bulk. Not too shabby.
